Graham Potter’s debut as Chelsea manager ended in disappointment as RB Salzburg snatched a 1-1 Champions League draw.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for a dominant Blues side early in the second half – but sloppy defending allowed Noah Okafor to equalize for the Austrian champions.
Chelsea suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb last week – which was followed by the surprise dismissal of manager Thomas Tuchel.
But there was not to be an immediate revival under former Brighton boss Potter, who already faces an uphill battle to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.
Chelsea are at the bottom of Group E after two matches, before a double header against leaders AC Milan.
Former Blues defender Scott Minto said: “If it was a boxing match, I’d give it to Chelsea on points. But they haven’t done enough.
“Potter would give it a six out of ten.” There is clearly a lot of work to be done. »
The new Blues boss opened up with an unusual, fluid formation and his side dominated possession in the first half but failed to create any meaningful chances.
