Gowdy: ‘Six body bags later’ country realizes dangers of left-wing bail reform initiative

| Breaking News Updates | News Today

Fox News host Trey Gowdy spoke out on pressure from the left for bail reform in light of the Wisconsin parade tragedy caused by a career criminal, who was released on bail a few days earlier.

Darrell brooks was charged with intentional manslaughter after driving his SUV through a crowded street commemorating the holiday season, killing six people aged 8 to 81 and injuring dozens more.

Gowdy, on his show “Sunday Night in America,” asked why Brooks, a convicted felon and career criminal, was allowed to post a meager $ 1,000 bail in Milwaukee County on felony charges and of misdemeanor just days before the fatal incident.

“Last Sunday night in Wisconsin it wasn’t Santa Claus walking down the parade route. He’s not a career bail criminal,” Gowdy told viewers. “It was Darrell Brooks Jr., a long-time criminal who has harmed people for most of his life.”

“He was on the bail sex offender registry again, crushing parents, grandparents and children. That night of joy in Wisconsin ended in excruciating grief,” Gowdy continued. “That grief quickly turned into anger because Darrell Brooks Jr. should never have driven last Sunday night, he should have been in jail.”

Two separate judges have freed Brooks on low-cost bail this year alone, records show. First for $ 500 in February after allegedly shooting his nephew the previous summer and again for $ 1,000 earlier this month after a woman accused him of hitting and crushing her with the same SUV that would have walked through the Waukesha Christmas Parade.

The surprisingly low bond was “all the security these prosecutors needed to get Darrell Brooks Jr. back on the streets,” Gowdy observed.

“Now, 6 body bags later, prosecutors can finally see that this bond was too low. We already know that … now, after 6 people were killed and dozens more injured, you set the bond at $ 5 million. So what’s different now? He was a career criminal before killing 6 people in a Christmas parade, we don’t need a prosecutor to react after there are 6 bodies lying on a parade route.

“We need them to prioritize public safety first,” Gowdy said.

The host and former federal prosecutor berated Liberal lawmakers who have been at the forefront of nationwide bail reform initiatives.

“If you think $ 1,000 was the right amount of bail for a career offender who led someone in early November so they could get out of jail in time to run over dozens of people in a Christmas parade , so say it, just make sure you say it’s loud enough where we can hear you, ”Gowdy said.

“And then,” he added, “the rest of us need to remember all of the coming November to make sure that criminal sympathizers and apologists posing as politicians and policymakers politicians should never again influence the politics of this country. “
