Government appoints unofficial directors to boards of various banks

The government has appointed independent directors to the boards of various public sector banks, including the Union Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and Canara Bank, according to regulatory documents filed by the banks.

The government has appointed an unofficial director (NOD) to the board of directors of these banks for three years.

The appointment was made under the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Businesses) Act of 1970 and 1980. The Bank of Maharashtra, in a file, said financial services department under the Ministry of Finance dated 21 December 2021, appointed Shashank Shrivastava and Sardar Baljit Singh as NOD.
