Pink is generally associated with a traditional (archaic?) conception of femininity. This look, however, seen on Native American model Quannah Chasinghorse at Prabal Gurung’s SS22 show, is anything but orthodox. Although it can be achieved using eye, lip or even cheek colors, the key is in the application. Apply color only to the inner and outer corners of the eyes. Leave the center bare and finish by adding a variation of pink on the lips. If you’ve always blanched at the “girliness” of pink makeup, say hello to its bolder counterpart.

I can’t live without it… A no-frills cleanser that punches above its weight

I haven’t done the math, but I’d say the biggest product category I cover is cleansers. That’s because cleansers are so fundamental to our skincare routines. There are entire categories of skincare that one could forego. I love an essence and think it does amazing things on your skin, but do you absolutely need it? No. A cleanser? Non-negotiable. A decent cleanser will remove dirt and makeup, it won’t strip your skin, it will allow your moisturizers to work better and give you brighter, healthier skin. Ideally, you need more than one cleanser: skin doesn’t stagnate; it is a living respiratory organ, so you must react accordingly. If your skin seems clogged, you can use a non-stripping foam or gel cleanser with a mask. If your skin is dry or dehydrated, it will benefit from oily cleansing. There aren’t many cleansers that do it all. But some come close, like this one from Medik8, which is a brilliant brand of no-frills cosmeceuticals (basically medical grade, but you can buy it without a prescription). It’s a powerful and truly impressive gel cleanser that’s great for getting rid of makeup, doesn’t strip skin, and includes exfoliating acids. It is ideal for mature skin as well as skin prone to breakouts, all of which are cleaner, brighter, softer and smoother. And your products continue like a dream. If your current cleanser isn’t working, here’s one to try. Medik8 Surface Radiance Cleanse, £14.40, lookfantastic.com
