Mr Maxwell believes Epstein’s death was a failure of the US justice system, and his sister is now to be blamed.

He said: “There was simply a transfer of alleged guilt from Jeffrey Epstein without any corroborating evidence. Simply because she was in a relationship.

“He then dies, and they have to find someone to pay the price.”

Mr. Maxwell believes that the American authorities are responsible for a “campaign of disinformation” against his sister.

“We are starting with a press conference designed to be damaging,” he said. “And then we’ve had a whole plethora of news programs, documentaries and so on over the last two or three years, which are all one-sided.

“There is no other way to look at this other than the way the accusers set it up and their lawyers, and it seems to me to be a campaign designed to harm my sister in the public eye. . “

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York declined to comment.

Lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell have previously claimed their client lost hair and over 15 pounds of body weight while incarcerated.

Mr Maxwell believes his sister’s treatment in prison made it harder to prepare for his defense and wondered how Harvey Weinstein, Derek Chauvin and Bernie Madoff could all get bail before trial, but demands for her sister have been rejected several times.

“It’s designed to break her,” he said. “It’s just unfair. It’s a fundamental human rights abuse. And I find that quite shocking.”

“And I think your viewers, if they’re being honest, should find that shocking as well. Imagine if it was their mother or sister or daughter in the same position as my sister. One hell of a story about that?”

A US federal judge has ruled on several occasions that Ghislaine Maxwell presented a risk of absconding. Prosecutors cited his citizenship in three countries and his significant wealth as factors justifying the denial of bail.

One month before the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, her brother thinks that her reputation has been “globally flouted” and fears that she will benefit from a fair trial.

“In the court of public opinion … it seems to me that Ghislaine has already been convicted and the sentence she inflicted on him in prison as an accused is precisely what it is. .

“You are innocent unless and until your guilt is proven.

“But the mountain of allegations made against him and being broadcast and hailed aloud around the world is so great that I really have to wonder if we are going to have a fair trial?”

Mr Maxwell said he had not spoken to his sister since her arrest and would be “shocked” if she were found guilty, but said she would likely appeal.

Jill Greenfield, a lawyer who represents some of Epstein’s alleged victims in the UK, said she has confidence in the US legal system and the trial is a vital opportunity for Ms Maxwell’s accusers.

“I think any alleged victim of sexual assault will very painfully recount their memories of what happened to them.

“But in doing so, they are talking openly about something of which they were, as they see themselves, a victim.

“And I think that can be quite cathartic for this alleged victim and [an] important part of the recovery process.

“To oppose an accuser all over the place is a really hard thing for someone to do and to be given and allowed to do, through a judicial process, is really important. . “

Ghislaine Maxwell is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. His trial is scheduled to begin on November 29.
