‘Getting him is amazing’ – Arsenal legend hails Gabriel Jesus as ‘brilliant signing’ as £45m transfer deal agreed with Man City

Arsenal legend Ray Parlor has praised the club for their “brilliant” business after securing a deal for Gabriel Jesus – insisting he is the signing they need this summer.

The Gunners are set to sign the striker from Man City for £45million, in a move which talkSPORT say will make Brazilian Mikel Arteta the highest-paid player.

Although a deal for the 25-year-old has yet to be officially announced, it marks a significant breakthrough for the North London side as they seek to continue their rebuilding.

After losing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette since the turn of the year, signing a striker was always going to be a priority this summer.

And, according to Parlor, the addition if Jesus is the one the club should be proud of.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, the Invincibles legend said: “He’s a brilliant signing.

“The centre-forward was the area they needed to strengthen.

“We knew that [Alexandre] Lacazette’s contract was up and he was moving on and so Gabriel Jesus, getting him through the door is amazing.

“You see the pictures in the newspapers of Edu hugging him, he will be delighted to have a player of his caliber and what he has done so far in his career.

“He will obviously also know Mikel Arteta.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing how he fits in at Arsenal.

“He will have chances because that’s something Arsenal do well, they create chances with [Martin] Odegaard, [Emile] Smith Rowe, [Gabriel] Martinelli and [Bukayko] Saka from the right, so he will have opportunities.

“And if he hits the ground running, I think he will help Arsenal get closer to that top four.”
