Rashford hasn’t featured for England since the World Cup in Qatar – where he scored three goals.

He retired from the last team in March after suffering a minor injury – but that didn’t stop him from flying to New York with his girlfriend.

talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has slammed the 25-year-old’s decision saying it could impact his relationship with Southgate.

Southgate then defended the forward while on vacation, and he has now insisted he hopes he can finally rely on the player.

Speaking to talkSPORT England correspondent Faye Carruthers, the 52-year-old was jokingly asked if Rashford was going to show up for camp.

The question made the former Middlesbrough manager laugh, as he said: “Well, I guess he will.

“He’s a great player who had a very good season. He’s an important player for us.

“We weren’t lucky enough to have him in the team too often.

“But we hope it will be different and we can’t wait to see it again.”

Rashford has had a stunning season for United, where he helped them win the Carabao Cup and led them to the FA Cup final, where they will face rivals Manchester City on June 3.

He registered 29 goals and 11 assists in 53 games in all competitions – his most productive tenure to date.

Despite his impressive year, Gary Neville dropped him from his team of the season, with Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli favored instead.
