Fulham 6-2 Birmingham: Cottagers go goal crazy again to extend lead to five points

or the third time in a week Fulham have gone goal-crazed against one of the Championship’s lower midfield sides – this time with six goals smashed past Birmingham.
The Cottagers hit Reading seven times unanswered last Tuesday before claiming a 6-2 win at home to Bristol City at the weekend.
And the goals were split between five players, including one from Birmingham, to tie that score again at Craven Cottage on Tuesday night to extend their lead at the top of the table to five points.
Fulham’s first came in the 10th minute when Tom Cairney’s deflected pass put Harry Wilson in a central position on the right.
The Welshman’s delivery looked perfect for Aleksandar Mitrovic to add to his tally of 27 goals, but Blues defender Marc Roberts got there first to deflect the ball past former Fulham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge and into his own net.
Wilson saw a drive behind a defender on the half hour mark and although Birmingham had kept their form well from the start of the setback, their defense was breached again in the 35th minute.
Again Wilson was involved on the right, this time sending defender Denis Odoi forward to fire in a cross. Birmingham were caught off guard and Kebano raced past Maxime Colin to fire home an early effort past Etheridge.
Goal number three quickly followed in the 38th minute. Neeskens Kebano was again involved but it was Robinson who claimed the assist as Fabio Carvalho edged past Teden Mengi to send a header into the bottom corner.
Carvalho fired an effort at Etheridge just after when Birmingham failed to clear their lines, but Cairney scored on his next attack. Wilson, Kebano and Carvalho exchanged passes before the Fulham captain fell on a post while falling on his back.
Birmingham pulled one straight back through Ivan Sunjic, whose powerful drive from outside the box gave Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak no chance as he also entered a right.
Birmingham made it 4-2 in the 74th minute thanks to Gardner’s precision. Hernandez stole possession from substitute Nathaniel Chalobah to allow Pedersen to move forward and set Gardner up for a low drive between Rodak and his left post.
Fulham restored their three-goal advantage within seconds, however, when Carvalho danced along the edge of the box before planting a low drive beyond Etheridge’s reach. Robinson fizzled in another from the edge of the box in stoppage time to complete the rout.
