Footballers’ use of social media has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks and months.
The highlighted problem is that many players don’t seem to control the accounts themselves, but PR firms instead get the job done and post generic posts, especially after losses.
While some footballers’ accounts are full of PR-run nonsense, there are others that are very entertaining.

Fernandes’ social media posts were particularly in the spotlight
There have been huge mistakes over the past seven days with Antonio Conte and Bruno Fernandes’ accounts posting things that have nothing to do with their respective clubs.
Gary Neville has been particularly critical of the players’ social media accounts and criticized the way Manchester United urges its stars to act.
The eight-time Premier League winner was reacting to an interview clip shared by United media CEO Phil Lynch explaining how the club sent players charts on fan sentiment twice a day.
He replied, “Create robots on and off the field!” Keep them away from f @@ k. It’s a football club. He looks like he’s trying to win a general election with controlling fans! “
TalkSPORT host Jamie O’Hara called for more players to take care of their own social media accounts.
He said: “Unless you’re Ronaldo and have 120 million followers, just take care of your own Instagram or Twitter. You are an adult adult.
Chelsea legend John Terry has taken to Twitter like a duck in the water, but many current footballers seem to be writing their own social media posts…
10.) Andy Robertson
Since joining Hull in 2017, the Scotland international has become a Premier League and Champions League winner.
The 27-year-old appears to be the funny Liverpool man in the dressing room and his Twitter bio read: “I play football, I avoid the sun and I put crosses.”
talkSPORT thinks it plays the latter role, however, considering the value of those assists!
9.) Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Zlatan is certainly a maverick and this unashamed arrogance certainly shows through on social media.
The striker still plays at the highest level at 40 and played for AC Milan.
He’s not afraid to let people know how good he is and that creates great content.
8.) Declan Rice
The West Ham midfielder has been sensational this season on the pitch and has been the driving force behind the club’s success.
While many of his Euro 2020 teammates have had hangovers, Rice has only gotten stronger.
His social media accounts are also a lot of fun and he does a good job interacting with fans.
7.) Aymeric Laporte
The center-back was instrumental in Pep Guardiola’s recent Man City success, helping the club to three Premier League titles.
He’s played 122 times for City and a huge fan favorite – and quite the wild card on social media.
Laporte changed his name on social media to “Eric” because a fan thought it was his name.
6.) James Milner
For a long time, the parody account “Boring James Milner” was one of the best to follow on Twitter.
Then the Liverpool man joined the platform himself and outdid the parody.
His self-deprecating messages and dry sense of humor make him a brilliant follow-up.
5.) Marten De Roon
The Atalanta midfielder and Dutch international clearly manages his own social media account.
The 30-year-old doesn’t take himself too seriously and is one of the funniest footballers.
4.) Cesc Fabregas
The Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona hero is very open and honest in his social media posts and enjoys connecting with fans.
He regularly leads question-and-answer sessions, which can provide brilliant answers.
3.) Michy Batshuayi
The striker has been somewhat of a companion since joining Chelsea, loaning to four different clubs.
But he has continued to provide plenty of entertainment over the years on his social media accounts.
Whether it’s mocking his own FIFA ratings, pointing out the hilarious face of Phil Jones, or mocking the moment he kicked the ball in his own face, it’s worth following.
2.) Michel Antonio
The West Ham striker has grown steadily over the past two seasons and is the club’s talisman.
He’s scored a lot of goals and it’s also a nightmare to face.
Antonio doesn’t take things too seriously and is known for having brilliant post-match interviews.
His social media accounts are also of great value.
1.) Allan Saint Maximin
Saint-Maximin quickly established himself as Newcastle fan favorite thanks to his flair and skills on the pitch.
While the club may have struggled lately, the striker has been a silver lining.
There’s a lot to like about the Frenchman and his social media posts make it hard to hate him (unless you’re a Sunderland fan).
