Four bullets in Clayton County Walmart after man mishandled gun, police say

A total of four people were injured after a 29-year-old man mishandled his gun, shooting himself and three others, Lovejoy police said.

Police said they responded to Walmart for a gunshot. Upon arrival, officials determined that Michael Walton had been negligent with his weapon when it fired a bullet, hitting him and three other people.
Further investigation showed that the weapon was loaded and unsheathed. Police said “the handling of the firearm was not done to a standard of reasonable care.”

“Mr. Walton’s actions put all other customers and employees of the business at risk and will be charged with reckless driving and incarcerated in the Clayton County Jail,” police said.

All involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatment.
