The 54-year-old came alive inside the dressing room, rallying his team on

Lionel Messi put Lionel Scaloni’s side ahead with less than 10 minutes from the penalty spot, scoring his seventh goal in the World Cup final.

Instead of consolidating at the break, Renard rallied his players by telling them to attack in the second period.

In the pictures, the 54-year-old can be seen asking the team if they just want to ‘take a picture with Lionel Messi’.

“Messi, he has the ball in the middle of the field and you stay [hands up] in front of the defense… you have to go mark it in the middle, ”he encouraged.

“Take your phone, you can take a picture with him!

“Do you think we are not able to come back? You don’t feel it? You play relaxed. Come on, guys, it’s the world cup. Give it all!”

Renard’s speech was translated by a member of his staff into Arabic, and he kept reminding his players of the stakes of the competition. before going out and securing their surprise victory.

Incredibly, just three minutes after the speech, the Saudi players kicked off the second half and the underdogs quickly equalized.

Saleh Alshehri fired a shot past Emiliano Martinez into the Argentina goal, leaving the Aston Villa keeper with no chance.

The drama didn’t end there, however, when Salem Aldawsari emerged with one of the finest goals in the competition’s history in the 53rd minute to give his side a surprise lead.

The result means Argentina have everything to do in their last two matches

Argentina continued to dominate possession but failed to create chances, not really testing the Saudi goalkeeper.

Renard’s side remained resolute, defended as a unit and ultimately kept Scaloni’s men from coming back into the game, securing the most unlikely of victories.
