Floyd Mayweather & Conor McGregor Rumored ‘In Talks’ For Rematch As McGregor Posts Cryptic ‘I Accept’ Instagram Post

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are rumored to be “in talks” to potentially meet in a rematch of their 2017 fight.

The 50-0 retired boxing legend ended his career five years ago by stopping the MMA superstar in the tenth round and then calling it quits the sport.

Mayweather vs McGregor’s first encounter was one of boxing’s most lucrative fights

Mayweather has since returned for three exhibition contests.

The first of these took place against Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan on New Year’s Eve 2018 and ended with a first-round knockout for the 20-year-old kickboxer.

The second in June 2021 saw Mayweather go the eight-round distance with YouTuber-turned-boxer Logan Paul.

And the third, most recently in May, saw Floyd dominate his former sparring partner Don Moore over eight rounds in Abu Dhabi.

After the fight with Moore, Mayweather announced that he would return to Japan and face Mikuru Asakura in September.

However, it looks like there might be bigger projects on the way.

According to FightHype, the boxing YouTube channel with by far the closest relationship to Mayweather’s team, there are currently talks for a potential rematch with McGregor.

FightHype stated, “Sources familiar with the information have informed us that Hall of Fame legend Floyd Mayweather and UFC star Conor McGregor are currently in talks for a possible rematch…

“According to our sources, Mayweather would pocket another nine-figure salary if the two parties could come to an agreement.”

As of now, there’s no confirmation from either side, but McGregor’s Instagram post on Thursday night certainly raised some eyebrows.

The Irish king of the UFC has released an image of his first fight with Mayweather, just before news broke of his talks with him.

McGregor captioned the image: “I accept.”

Time will tell if this is indeed confirmation that talks are underway.
