Firefighters are still on the bridge in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Friday, July 5. Two fires, however fixed for several days, are active again. The fire covered an additional 250 hectares.

Acres of forest were charred. In the distance, we still see plumes of smoke. In the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, the fire resumed on the evening of Thursday August 4, between the municipalities of Villeneuve and Niozelles. Driven by the wind, the flames have now covered an additional 250 hectares. All at night, the mayor of Niozelles, Paul Romand, kept vigil. “We were freaking out, because I was like ‘if ever [le feu] jump there, again, it starts again. And over there, it burned to the bottom… Well, it’s a disaster”he testifies.

In this small village, the inhabitants are worried. “We are in an area where there is a lot of vegetation, on all sides, which is magnificent. And there is still the risk of destruction”, is alarmed one of them. Last Tuesday, a violent fire broke out in this very difficult to access forest massif. A fire probably of accidental origin, but which had forced the residents of Niozelles to evacuate, as a precaution.
