In La-Teste-de-Buch, in Gironde, where 7,000 hectares have burned, agents from the National Forestry Office are in the process of establishing a precise report of the damage from the fire. They map the burned areas with drones.

Seen from the sky, the forest of La-Teste-de-Buch (Gironde) appears disfigured. For several weeks, the 7,000 hectares ravaged by the fire will be mapped meter by meter. This emergency mission was entrusted to agents of the National Forestry Office to make a precise inventory of the destroyed areas.

“The drone has an easier time flying over areas which, on foot, are sometimes difficult to access. Then, to be able to map them or to be able to analyze them, do photo interpretation”, explains Aurélien Pedemay, geomatician at the National Forestry Office. On the ground, the work of the two agents is colossal. They identify on foot and using a GPS each impact of the fire on six kilometers of gray dune. Follow-ups will therefore be carried out. The readings will make it possible in particular to put in new seeds.
