Square Enix has shared a ton of new gameplay details and screenshots for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth alongside a narrated trailer for Red XIII, all of which can be viewed below.
While the trailer is just a catch-up to Story So Far (which will be included in the game’s main menu for those who need a refresher on Final Fantasy 7 Remake), Square Enix also shared plenty of other information, including details on new regions and new characters. , and more.
The developer has confirmed that Active and Classic combat modes will return in Rebirth, once again allowing players to choose between fast-paced action or slower decision-making. The sequel will, however, benefit from a new difficulty mode, Dynamic joining Easy and Normal to allow further customization of the player.
The Kalm and Mythril Mine regions have also been deepened. “A peaceful hamlet protected from the outside world by a solid stone wall,” Square Enix said of Kalm. “Although it does not have a reactor of its own, it thrives on a constant supply of mako from the metropolis of Midgar, visible from the top of the city’s famous clock tower.”

As for the Mythril Mine, Square Enix said: “A once very active mine that connects the Grasslands to Junon. Although once prized for its significant deposits of mithril, the quarry fell into disuse after Shinra developed its own superior mineral, and miners. which once worked, its tunnels have been replaced by monsters.
Although Rebirth is a remake of the second part of Final Fantasy 7, just like the first part (Remake), it will feature a host of new characters, including five that Square Enix has detailed here.
Broden is the “owner and operator of the Kalm Inn. He holds a grudge against Shinra, offering to help Cloud and his friends escape their would-be captors. His gaunt appearance may be due to his recent bout with an unknown illness. “
Rhonda is the “mayor and sheriff of Under Junon. Her home, once a thriving fishing village, fell into decline after Shinra built a military fortress above her head and a mako reactor on the high seas offshore Despite Cloud and his friends’ status as suspected terrorists, Rhonda still allows them to pass through her town.
Priscilla is a cheerful young girl who lives in Under Junon, often seen swimming with the dolphin she trains. The offshore mako reactor has contaminated the surrounding waters and Priscilla fears for the safety of her dolphin friend and others aquatic creatures.”
Another new character is Billy, Bill’s grandson and owner of a chocobo ranch on the prairies. “Having lost his parents at a young age, he and his sister were raised by their grandfather,” Square Enix said. “This young ranch hand kindly offers to teach Cloud and company the ropes of fighting chocobos – on the condition that they frequent his sister’s shop.”
The fifth and final new character revealed by Square Enix is Chloe, Billy’s younger sister. “She runs a shop on the ranch where she sells craft materials and other trinkets. Warm and caring, she engages politely with Cloud and his company and is grateful for their sponsorship. At the same time, she worried about her brother’s fixation on making money.”
Returning to the main group of Cloud, Aerith, etc., Square Enix also revealed that Synergy Abilities will debut in Rebirth. These are powerful attacks in which two characters team up to perform, with more abilities unlocked as players progress through the party.
Cloud can throw Tifa towards an enemy to attack them in tandem in Relentless Rush, for example, while Barret can throw Red XIII at high speed to execute Overfang.
Synergy skills have also been added, these providing further benefits in combat beyond just physical damage. Cloud and Aerith can gather their forces to team up and perform a charged magical attack called Spell Blade, while Cloud and Barret can team up for an advanced charge called Mad Dash that guards the pair before unleashing a three-hit combo on an enemy .
Square Enix also revealed a new teleport move for Aerith called Ward Shift, and confirmed Red XIII’s abilities as he becomes properly playable for the first time. The basic attack sees Red XIII hit his enemies, and this can be sustained over a wider range, his abilities revolve around lightning-fast physical attacks and ranged magical attacks like Starfust Ray, and his skill unique is Vengeance mode, in which Red XIII unleashes the power of his enemies to attack them.
Summons were also brought up by Square Enix, as the developer confirmed that they would work in Rebirth in the same way as Remake. Kujata also did a deep dive: “a bovine deity who charges across the battlefield using the power of fire, ice, and lightning. She throws enemies with her enormous horns and unleashes magical attacks that strike even the weaknesses of distant enemies.”
Rebirth’s release date of February 29, 2024, is getting closer and fans are finally learning more and more about the game. Square Enix previously confirmed that it would feature new story content centered around Zack, and perhaps be even would incorporate Sephiroth’s backstory included in the mobile game Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis.
An ESBR review also revealed some wild and wacky details about the game, including its deep cleavage, pools of blood, and a potential clue to Aerith’s fate.
