Explosion heard near a mosque in downtown Kabul


KABUL — An explosion occurred Friday near a mosque in Kabul, the Afghan capital.

Interior Minister Spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor said the blast occurred on the main road near the mosque. He said the cause was being investigated and there was no immediate word on the victims. Takor said police teams were on the scene and an investigation was underway.

Mosques have already been the target of attacks.

Gunshots could be heard about 10 minutes after the explosion, which took place near the Wazir Akbar Khan mosque.
