Exclusive: Roy Bill cancels funding to Marine Corps University for ‘woke propaganda’
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) introduced a bill Thursday that would cancel funding for a Marine Corps University center after announcing on social media that he was hosting a “year-long exploration about gender and security” as part of a program named after a female Navy general, Breitbart News exclusively learned.
“Yesterday we were able to host the 1st reunion of the AY24 Reynolds Scholars,” Krulak Center’s X account posted. “The program is a year-long exploration of gender and security, named for Lt. Gen. Lori Reynolds, USMC (retired).”

The post drew criticism, including one person who replied, “Brute wouldn’t approve,” in reference to the center’s namesake, Marine Lt. Gen. Victor H. Krulak, whose nickname was “Brute.”
When the Krulak Center account administrator asked, “He wouldn’t approve what exactly?” and the person answered“woke BS,” the Krulak Center account then launched into a public tirade:
If you agree with this person, then I have a request. Please Dislike, Unfollow and Unfollow. Such attitudes are part of the problem and have no place in today’s Marine Corps. They had no place in the Corps of the past either, but there was no safe place to say such things back then.
We are better for the Marines than we have today. We will be even better in the future for every person we have who has earned the title of Marine, regardless of age, color, gender, race, religion, or national origin.
You do not agree ? Go clown somewhere else. You stain your legacy as a Marineyou discredit today’s Marines who work hard to answer the call of the Nation, and that is not in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

Roy said in a statement to Breitbart News:
Aside from a federally funded military education program outright calling for the censorship of free speech, this stuff is exactly what rots our army from within.
Our military should focus on killing people and blowing things up – not wasting time discussing “nonviolent masculinities” and other gender theory bullshit.
I am working on legislation to cancel funding for this program, but we shouldn’t stop there. Congressional Republicans don’t have to pass a defense authorization or funding law that doesn’t end every instance of woke propaganda like this.
The Marine Corps University is a federally funded professional military education institute. The Reynold Scholar program studies questions such as:
What is gender and how is it different from biological sex? How are war stories constructed through gendered discourse? How can we imagine nonviolent masculinities and the role they might play in conflict?
To what extent could the strategic discourse of the USMC pose a problem for the WPS? Why don’t we see diversity as a strength?
How to “do” diversity within the DoD? What is wrong with the WPS “brand”? How to reconcile the consequences and the gender-related causes?
Roy said he would introduce his bill to cancel funding for the Reynolds Scholar program as an amendment to the House Department of Defense appropriations bill.
The program was created as part of the Women, Peace, and Security Act of 2017 (Public Law 115-68), which was signed into law in October 2017 by then-President Donald Trump.
