Erik ten Hag talks to Manchester United stars for ‘several minutes’ ahead of first training session as Steve McClaren and Marcus Rashford return, while starlet Alejandro Garnacho cuts his vacation short
Erik ten Hag spoke to Manchester United players for “several minutes” ahead of his first training session in charge of the club.
There will be a staggered return to training for individuals due to their commitments with their respective national teams, however, there were a number of recognizable faces during Ten Hag’s first session.

It was the first chance for Ten Hag to take a look at their new players
Players such as Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and David de Gea returned to the Carrington base as preparations for the new season were underway.
Fellow Dutchman Donny van de Beek cut an enthusiastic figure on reuniting with his former Ajax boss.
Anthony Martial also showed up for training, whose future at Old Trafford looks in doubt after returning from a poor loan spell at Sevilla in the second half of the 2021/22 season.
An old club friend was also seen on the training ground as Ten Hag’s assistant Steve McClaren, who worked as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant for two years, walked through the gates.
Before heading to the pitch, the players underwent routine medical tests and gym work before heading to the training grounds in the afternoon, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The report adds that Ten Hag, flanked by McClaren and coach Mitchell van der Gaag, then spoke to a combined group of first-team members and Under-21 players for ‘several minutes’ at the start of the session.
The players spent over two hours on the grass, most of it ball work with running drills included.
During the session, FA Youth Cup hero starlet Alejandro Garnacho made a quick return to training despite playing in the Toulon tournament for the Argentina Under-20 side. His last game was on June 10.
The Manchester Evening News report adds that some players who arrived before 9am stayed until 4pm.
