Eoin Morgan is set to step down as England white ball captain and retire from international cricket

England captain and ODI (One Day International) and T20 top scorer Eoin Morgan is set to retire from international cricket.

Morgan captained the England T20 team in 2012 and has 2,458 runs in the format.

Morgan has played 225 ODIs for England and 115 T20s

He also took charge of the ODI team in 2014 and has 6,957 runs in that version of the sport to cement his reputation.

It was a long and successful reign for Morgan who led England to the T20 World Cup final in 2016 and he won the ODI World Cup in 2019.

Morgan has played a pivotal role in England’s revamp of their white-ball style of cricket which has seen them go from a struggling side to in and around the best teams in the world in recent years.

More recently, Morgan captained England in their ODI series against the Netherlands and a number of players went wild with the bat, as they recorded the highest ever run tally in an ODI , with a score of 498-4 in the opening game.

The Irishman, however, struggled for form, looking for ducks in the opening two games and he missed the final game after suffering a groin problem.

There had been a lot of speculation, ahead of these retirement reports which are expected to be confirmed on Tuesday, about Morgan’s future, as he is only half a century old in his last 26 white ball appearances for England. .

Jos Buttler is the favorite to take over as captain, having played 151 ODIs for England and 88 T20s and he is in excellent form, having hit an incredible 162 from 70 balls in the opener against the Netherlands.

His first test, if announced as captain, will be a T20 series against India starting on July 7.
