England ‘sleepwalking into a disastrous World Cup’ and it’s ‘the beginning of the end for Gareth Southgate’ as fans demand the Three Lions boss be sacked ahead of Qatar 2022 following the relegation of the League of Nations

England fans have expressed serious concerns ahead of the World Cup following the 1-0 loss to Italy in the Nations League.

As well as sealing relegation from League A, the result marked a fifth game without a win for Gareth Southgate’s side.

Southgate is under intense pressure ahead of the World Cup

It’s the nation’s worst form since 2014 and, despite some of the best attacking talent in the world, their form in front of goal makes for even bleaker reading.

The Three Lions have failed to score from open play in 450 minutes of football, their worst run in so far in 22 years, and a tally tied with San Marino in the Nations League.

With Qatar 2022 just weeks away, fans are understandably worried – even though Southgate insists the team are on the right track.

In fact, former Chelsea defender and talkSPORT host Jason Cundy has suggested it could be the beginning of the end for the England boss.

Cundy told talkSPORT: “Right now our nation is sleepwalking towards a World Cup that is going to turn into an absolute disaster.

“I said ‘stink of the place’, I can’t think of another description to describe what England are doing under Southgate.

England was again uninteresting

“I actually was a Gareth supporter. I think he did a really good job and changed the way we look at the England team.

“Now I think we are looking at the beginning of the end for Southgate.

“Tonight’s performance was better, it wasn’t difficult – but you have to call it what it is and we’re not going anywhere.

“If it was the Premier League or the Champions League and we saw that performance, the rhetoric would be that he lost the dressing room and they’re not playing for the manager.

“That, to me, is very worrying.”

#SouthgateOUT started trending on Twitter and fans called talkSPORT to express their displeasure.

Adam, an England fan, said: “He has to go before the World Cup.

“I wouldn’t even put it on the flight home with the players!

“It has to happen. Let’s be honest, with those five Premier League results, he would have been long gone.

“He said it was a close performance? Near what!?
