Emma Raducanu kicked off her Wimbledon 2022 campaign on the right foot with a straight sets victory in her first round clash.
In her first match on center court in SW19, Raducanu got the better of Belgium’s Alison Van Uytvanck, winning 6-4 6-4.
The US Open champion, who entered this tournament after feeling tension alongside her in Nottingham earlier in June.
But there were no signs of injury problems for Raducanu, who fought well against an opponent who gave him problems.
Cameron Norrie also got off to a winning start in their first-round clash, with the British men’s No.1 beating Spain veteran Pablo Andujar 6-0 7-6 6-3 in a wet clash on Court Two.
It wasn’t so lucky for Jodie Burrage, who lost 6-2 6-3 to Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko.
However, Burrage warmed the hearts of the Wimbledon crowd after giving Percy Pigs to a ball boy, who fell ill during the match.
Japan-born Yuriko Miyazaki was another British player to fall in the first round, with the 26-year-old suffering a gruesome 4-6 6-1 7-6 (10-4) loss to France’s Caroline Garcia.
