Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray with unwanted firsts at Wimbledon as they crumble, but Cameron Norrie and unlikely heroes keep flying the flag for Britain
Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray suffered their first outings at Wimbledon as they both crashed out on a night to forget for the British duo.
Raducanu, who won the 2021 US Open, lost 6-3 6-3 to France’s Caroline Garcia, while Murray lost in four sets to American John Isner.

As Murray falls in the second round for the first time in his career
For Raducanu, it’s a worse performance than last year when she entered the tournament as a wildcard, having been ranked in the world No. 338, but reached the fourth round.
Her participation in the Grand Slam had been questioned, she suffered from numerous injuries and was a no-show for scheduled practice at Wimbledon.
Garcia, a former top 10 player, dominated the game with her aggression, which unsettled the 19-year-old.
The world No. 55 will now face Shuai Zhang in the next round.
Murray’s display was extremely fiery and it looked like a heroic comeback could be on the cards when he breathed new life into the contest to win the third set.
But a break for the great Isner early in the fourth confirmed a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (3-7) 6-4 triumph on center court.

Fellow Briton Harriet Dart won her first-round tie on Wednesday, however, when she beat Rebeka Masarova 6-1 6-4.
Cameron Norrie booked his place in the third round with a dramatic victory in five sets, beating Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-4 3-6 5-7 6-0 6-2.
Ryan Peniston’s journey came to an end when American Steve Johnson, who faces Norrie in the third round, won 6-3 6-2 6-4.
Meanwhile, Heather Watson’s campaign could be set to continue with the Guernsey-born star 7-5 5-4 against China’s Wang Qiang before bad light suspended the game.
