This followed a similar late postponement of Burnley’s recent fixture against Tottenham, due to snowfall with Brentford, Manchester United, Leicester and Tottenham also being affected by a number of positive tests.

Dyche said, “We didn’t find out until 4:40 pm. We had no news from Watford of the possible situation.

“And then it appeared they had cases of Covid and the game had to be canceled. It was very late for sure.

Burnley will now turn his attention to a scheduled clash with Aston Villa on Saturday – although the Midlanders have had cases in their camp as well.

Dyche said of the postponement: “It’s not a big drama, it’s happened, it’s settled, the next one is coming very quickly.

“I’m sure the Premier League will tell us why it was called off as we don’t have any details yet but we are moving forward, it’s that simple. What’s done is done.

“It’s about realizing what will cause a game to be called off and what will not cause a game to be called off.”

Burnley himself has several ongoing Covid cases, although Dyche has revealed that only one is a player and they are convinced he was isolated quickly enough not to impact the rest of the squad. .
