Domestic violence: 244,000 victims were recorded in 2022, this is 15% more than the previous year

This Thursday, November 16, the Ministry of the Interior published the figures for cases of domestic violence in France. In total, nearly 244,000 victims were recorded in 2022, that’s 15% more in one year.
The numbers are chilling. The Ministry of the Interior revealed, this Thursday, November 16, cases of domestic violence committed by a partner or ex-partner, during the year 2022.
According to the ministry, 244,000 victims were recorded by the police, an increase of 15% compared to the previous year. In details, “two thirds of this violence is physical violence, 30% verbal or psychological violence and 5% sexual violence”specifies the report.
In addition, 87% of victims are women, with men most often being blamed (89%). But if these figures are increasing, it is in particular because they occur in a “context of freedom of speech And improving the reception conditions for victims by the police and gendarmerie services“, underlines the report.
Several departments would be particularly concerned by these figures. We find that of Seine-Saint-Denis, Guyana, Pas-de-Calais, Nord and Réunion where the highest rates were recorded per 1,000 inhabitants aged 15 to 64.
Finally, the report concludes with a final figure. Only “one in four victims of domestic violence reports to the security services the facts she suffered.
