Digital Literacy, Content Creation Metaverse — Higher Skills Beginners Must Have to Land a Job in the Next 5 Months

In the first six months of 2024, i.e. January to June, 68% of companies surveyed by recruitment company Teamlease Edtech want to hire newcomers. This is a slight increase of 3% compared to the previous semester.

For those of you looking to start your career, while your core skills in your field are important, having soft skills is just as important to increase your chances of employability.

Teamlease Edtech Career Outlook Report suggests that skills in areas that employers expect newcomers to possess are Metaverse, Content Creation, UI/UX Design and Internet of Things (IoT). The soft skills that employers want newcomers to possess are digital literacy, growth mindset, adaptability, flexibility and emotional intelligence.

Top positions sought by newcomers include graphic designer, legal associate, digital marketing manager, and chemical engineer.

Across sectors, India’s top IT giants plan to recruit over 40,000 new entrants in the next six months, the report said. It adds that the growth of the IT sector is fueled by increasing global demand for artificial intelligence (AI) and high performance computing (HPC), alongside continued demand for smartphones, personal computers, infrastructure and a sustained growth in the automotive sector.

Manufacturing companies are stepping up their recruiting efforts to expand operations and meet growing product demand, and therefore plan to recruit 15-30% more graduates from the class of 2024 compared to the previous year, suggests the Teamlease Edtech report.

E-commerce, technology startups, engineering, infrastructure and telecommunications have emerged as the main sectors poised to absorb new talent in the coming months.

As the job market evolves, the report suggests that certification courses for profiles of cybersecurity experts, business analysts, cloud security professionals, DevOps engineers, artificial intelligence and microbiology are becoming more and more popular.

Furthermore, generative AI is making significant contributions in various industries in two main ways. First, it automates routine tasks, allowing professionals, including beginners, to focus on the more strategic and creative dimensions of their roles. Second, it improves the execution of advanced tasks, harmoniously combining the strengths of human intelligence and creativity with the specialized capabilities of generative AI, the report said.
