Rescue workers and medical teams are trying to reach residents trapped in a collapsed building following an earthquake in Diyarbakir, southeastern Turkey, early Monday. A powerful earthquake caused major damage in southeastern Turkey and Syria and many casualties were reported.

A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Turkey and northern Syria on Monday morning. At least 1,900 people have died, according to the Associated Press. Rescuers search for people trapped in collapsed buildings. The area also felt at least 30 major aftershocks, according to the US Geological Survey.
