Democrats think arresting Donald Trump is their ‘only hope’ in 2024

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) argued in a Twitter post that Democrats believe the early arrest of former President Donald Trump is the party’s “only hope” of winning the 2024 election.

Boebert, who has aligned closely with Trump since her first run for the House of Representatives in 2020, argued, “Democrats know they can’t beat our ideas at the polls in 2024, so think that’s their only hope.”

Trump wrote a message on Truth Social on Saturday morning announcing that he expected to be arrested on Tuesday in connection with an investigation by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office into payments allegedly made to Stormy Daniels. Additionally, Trump has called for protests in the event of an arrest.

Boebert compared Trump’s legal position to that of his 2016 opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was previously investigated by the FBI for allegedly storing classified documents on a private server. .

“It’s ridiculous that Hillary Clinton and others are walking around carelessly while President Trump is going through hell on earth,” Boebert wrote.

In a later tweet, Boebert urged others to oppose “President Trump’s political persecution”.

Other Republicans have spoken out against what they see as an attempt to weaponize the criminal justice system against the former president.

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) describe the upcoming arrest as “an outrageous” and “politically motivated abuse of power” and announced that he “directs the appropriate committees to immediately investigate whether federal funds are being used to subvert our democracy by interfering in elections with politically motivated prosecutions”.

Vivek Ramaswamy, an author and entrepreneur who is running against Trump for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has sentenced the expected decision to indict Trump and called on his other key opponents to oppose “politically empowered prosecutors eliminating opposition from a ruling party using the power of arrest.”
