Death after Alec Baldwin fires ‘unfathomable’ propeller pistol

Police in the US state of New Mexico are investigating the death of a woman and the injury of a man after actor Alec Baldwin fired a gun on a film set.

Halyna Hutchins, who worked on the film Rust as cinematographer, was airlifted to hospital but was pronounced dead by medical staff.

A spokesperson for Mr Baldwin said the incident involved the misfiring of a blank propeller pistol.

Adam Egypt Mortimer is a director who worked with Ms. Hutchins on the 2020 action film Archenemy.

Describing the gun safety procedures movies tend to use, he told the BBC what happened was “unfathomable”.
