Dead, frozen shark found on Cape Cod beach during cold snap

A partially frozen dead shark washed up on an icy beach in Cape Cod, Massachusetts over the weekend.

A local photographer came across the carcass while strolling along a beach, aptly named Cold Storage Beach, in Dennis at around 2.30pm.

Photographer, Amie Medeiros, snapped a photo of the shark lying on its side on the icy sand and shared it on Instagram.

She said the frozen animal was “not what I expected to find on my frozen winter adventure”, in the comments.

The large fish, believed to be a porbeagle shark, may have died from a wound to its side. Photographs of Mederios show that he has gashes above his fins.

Ice covered parts of the carcass as well as the majority of the beach as temperatures dipped below freezing in the area, according to the National Weather Service.

Shark sightings in Cape Cod waters increased over the summer as people flocked to the beaches of this popular vacation spot. East coast beaches were closed due to sightings and even some minor attacks.
