avid Moyes says he needs to get better performance from his defenders after a disappointing performance in the defeat to Southampton.

The Hammers came to a stop when Mohamed Elyounoussi scored a good first game from the edge of the box before a sloppy penalty allowed James Ward-Prowse to score and Jan Bednarek sealed three points with a free-kick goal.

West Ham are deprived of premier center duo Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna, while left-back Aaron Cresswell remains out.

“I felt overall we shouldn’t concede the goals we conceded today,” Moyes said.

“It wasn’t good. I didn’t like the goals we conceded at Tottenham midweek either.

“It’s our job to improve them, to make them better, we have very good players, so we have to try to make them play at the top of their game.”

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek also struggled to exercise their usual control over the midfielder as Moyes bemoaned a day off for everyone involved.

“I didn’t think it was anything like us,” Moyes said.

“I hope I can make it a day off for us. Not the West Ham I’ve been with for the past two years. That’s what disappointed me the most. You can have days off. . We’re not at all different. Today was a bad day. I thought we had done enough to get back into the game and turn a bad day into a good one. “
