avid Moyes was not in a particularly celebratory mood despite West Ham’s 4-1 win over Watford as he lashed out at the decisions made in the game by VAR.
Jarrod Bowen was denied a goal early in the second half after VAR ruled there was a foul on Emmanuel Dennis during the preparation, and it was this decision that infuriated Moyes.
“Looks like we’ve come back to where we were a year and a half ago with soft free kicks,” Moyes said.
“It will be a shame for the game if this is where we are going. I just saw it now, and it’s a ridiculous decision that they don’t give the third goal for this level of free kick.
“I didn’t complain at the time because I thought I would give VAR and the referee a chance. It was ridiculously sweet, and I just can’t believe that goal wasn’t given.
The victory puts West Ham in fifth place, four points above Arsenal. Tottenham and Man United, sixth and seventh respectively, have two games in hand against Moyes’ side.
The West Ham boss was keen to play down expectations of a top-four challenge in 2022, insisting there was no pressure on his part to achieve that goal.
“We’re not talking about the top four, you are,” Moyes said when asked about West Ham’s prospects of securing Champions League football.
“We’re only talking about doing our best, challenging the best, trying to be among the best teams if we can.
“We enjoyed it when we were in the top four, and look forward to when we come back. “
