No president in recent history has suffered from the brunt of so many crises as Joe Biden is today. Inflation and shortages, a lukewarm job market, rising crime, the failure of his spending plan and an infrastructure bill, parents revolting against public schools and trial and error by foreign policy have its approval rating upside down. But there is a crisis Biden could resolve, or at least dramatically improve upon, in a fairly short period of time. This is the border. And there are signs, however faint, that the administration is finally understanding this.

The reason we know Uncle Joe could get around the border crisis pretty quickly is that just 10 months ago there was no border crisis and all the tools President Trump used to securing our border with Mexico are still in the White House. utility belt.

REPUBLICS OF THE SENATE SLAM BIDEN FOR THE CRISIS AT THE BORDERS, ALLEGE DEMS WILL NOT HOLD A HEARING ON THE ACCUMULATION OF MIGRANTS

A sign of hope is the administration’s apparent desire to return to the Trump era, the “stay in Mexico” policy, a key element in stemming the tide of illegal migrants.

Cynics will say that Biden is only turning the tide of this policy because a court demands it. Maybe, but the court order also gives Biden political cover, he can get tougher at the border and say to his progressive base, “Here is the deal, my hands are tied.”

The key aspect of the Stay in Mexico policy is the Mexican part. Vice President Harris, theoretically in charge of a border she doesn’t seem to care about, says we need to focus on the root causes. But make no mistake, Mexico is a root cause, as is the administration’s unfortunate wink and nod of the head urging migrants not to come. Mexico can and has been an effective partner in policing migration, and it must become so again.

DAVID MARCUS: THE QUESTION ON IMMIGRATION TO AMERICA WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AFTER DEL RIO MIGRANT CRISIS

The massive crowd of Haitian migrants under a bridge in Del Rio, Texas is recently the most visceral picture of the current border crisis. Although a small percentage of the millions of migrants who have entered the country, seeing an encampment on the outskirts of a small American town has opened the eyes of many Americans to the seriousness of this problem.

And how did the camp ultimately end? With enormous help from a previously recalcitrant Mexico.

It was Mexico that expelled thousands of Haitians from the region, and according to border officials I spoke with, their help was a game-changer. There is one and only reason why Mexico finally helped us clean up the mess and that is, of course, the money.

As the debacle under the bridge came to a head, the crossing between Del Rio and Ciudad Acuna across the border was closed.

DAVID MARCUS: BIDEN MUST Apologize to Border Agents He Defamed

This meant that millions, maybe billions of dollars were lost by our neighbor to the south. Suddenly we had a more than willing partner, that’s where the lesson lies.

Trump understood two key things, one that the United States is the most important economic engine for Mexico, and two that with a fire burning beneath them, Mexico can and will play a role in securing the frontier.

Today, tens of thousands of migrants are heading to America in caravans, once again.

What will happen when and if they reach the border will be the key to sending a message that after 10 months of unfortunate enforcement, the turnstile to the United States is closed again?

It can be accomplished, and it should be.

Addressing most of the issues that plague the White House today is like spinning an aircraft carrier, there is no quick way to do it.

The border is different. Even though it was Biden who caused the crisis, he can still recover precious political capital by ending it.

But to be successful, Biden must stop blaming border officers mounted for doing their jobs and start telling Mexico to do theirs.

It remains to be seen whether he will have the political courage to do so.
