A mini dachshund’s nervous first steps in the snow were captured in a video that has been dubbed “the cutest thing ever” on TikTok.
The dog, Sophie, may have gotten cold on her very first day in the snow, but footage showing her first experience of the white stuff is proving comforting to viewers.
The video, posted on TikTok under the handle sophiethedoxy, has been viewed more than 6.9 million times, with some viewers admitting to being on the verge of tears over the cuteness of the dachshund’s snowy antics.

Snow always generates a lot of excitement in people and it looks like humans aren’t the only ones enjoying it. Many of our canine companions are often as thrilled at the sight of snow as we are, according to canine and feline behavior consultant Amelia Wieber, and for similar reasons.
wieber said daily paws that, for a dog, the excitement is “it changes the way the landscape looks, it’s fun to throw, and it’s cool to roll around in”.
With dogs often observing the world around them as part of a daily walk, arriving at a familiar place to find it covered in snow is bound to be a source of excitement. However, Wieber said it was more than that.
“Snow probably has its own smell for dogs, and it can cover up or enhance different smells whether they were put down before, during, or after the snowfall,” she said. “Snow also gives dogs a new layer to dig into to find hidden creatures and covered treats, and any trails left behind are easier to see and therefore follow.”
Even so, some caution is required when introducing a new puppy to the snow for the first time. It is recommended to wrap up warm and keep excursions short and sweet.
Still, if there’s any advice for a new dog owner in this kind of scenario, it’s to make sure to capture the experience on camera. Then you might end up with the kind of heartwarming footage captured in the clip shared by sophiethedoxy.
Captioned ‘My first day in the snow’, the video shows Sophie, wrapped in a tiny coat, hopping around in the snow. “It was a bit difficult to walk…but I enjoyed it very much,” reads the text on the screen as the young pup explores his newly frosty surroundings.
Sophie wasn’t the only one enjoying the dachshund’s snowy adventure either, as the comments posted alongside the video show.
Sagelining said, “It’s the cutest thing ever”, with The Weather Channel writing, “This first day of snow is so magical.” Microsoft Surface said, “we’re not crying, you’re crying”, while Sarah Elizabeth Jones commented, “Oh my god, I just can’t with this.”
Elsewhere, helovesphiphi confessed they were “actually crying” watching the video with SherryKat524 bizarrely admitting “it makes me SO happy and I hate snow”. Llamacornnj7, meanwhile, spoke for many when he told Sophie’s owner, “Your dog is the sweetest, loveliest dog ever.”
