NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) – A Hermitage couple celebrated their anniversary when they opened the first Whataburger restaurant in middle Tennessee.

Brittany Smith, from Texas, and her husband Jhason celebrated their birthdays by arriving Tuesday night to be the first to line up when the restaurant opened at 11 a.m.

“I think for me it’s just longing for something from Texas being here that’s like ours,” said Brittany Smith, from Houston.

Whataburger will open the first of its eight locations in Nashville on Wednesday.

Brittany and Jhason met 12 years ago to the day at Starbucks across from Whataburger. On Wednesday, they celebrate their wedding anniversary at the burger restaurant.

“Obviously, this is not the norm for our celebration of our anniversary,” Jhason Smith said. “We’re doing something nicer after we’re done with this. “

Texas arrived in Tennessee 12 years ago when Brittany and Jhason met, and again on Wednesday, bringing together love for a burger and love for each other, making it worth the wait in cold.

“Experiment and have fun with the people you love,” said Brittany Smith.

Heavy traffic and a long line greeted the long-awaited opening of the restaurant on Old Hickory Boulevard. Some people waited all night, claiming they had been here since 5pm to be the first to enter when the restaurant opened.
