  • Colorado Republican Representative Lauren Boebert’s main Democratic challenger on Friday suspended her campaign.

  • Colorado’s redistribution altered its home district, putting candidate Kerry Donovan out of Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.

  • Boebert, known for her pro-gun positions, was elected for her first term in 2020.

The main Democratic challenger to Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado has suspended her campaign following redistribution efforts in the state.

Colorado State Senator Kerry Donovan has suspended her campaign for Boebert’s seat in the House of Representatives after being removed from her Colorado district as part of the redistribution process.

The Colorado Supreme Court has approved a new congressional map, in which Donovan’s house in Vail is no longer in District 3, CBS Denver reported. On the contrary, she is now a resident of the 2nd arrondissement, which is represented by Democratic Representative Joe Neguse.

A candidate is required to live in the state for which he is running, but not in the district, according to the rules of the House. However, applicants from outside their district may face increased criticism and scrutiny, CBS reported.

“While every $ 15 check in the mail with a ‘we believe in you’ memo or a $ 20 donation at a meetup has made me more engaged day by day, Congress cards have failed. recognized the complexity of rural Colorado and instead divided communities, protected titulars and ignored the voices of the Coloradans, ”Donovan said in a Twitter statement.

“As a result, there is no viable path for me to stay in this race, and I have made the decision to suspend my campaign for Congress,” she said.

Donovan suspended campaign fundraising in October after the first renderings of the congressional card placed it in Colorado’s 2nd District, according to the Denver Post.

Before the redistribution, Donovan’s race was in competition with Boebert’s re-election campaign. Donovan ended the first quarter of his fundraising efforts this year with more than $ 630,000 on the heels of Boebert’s $ 700,000, CPR News reported in April. In June, Boebert jumped to more than $ 1.8 million in the second quarter from $ 536,000 for Donovan, the Colorado Sun reported.
