UFC superstar Conor McGregor will make his acting debut in Amazon Prime movie ‘Road House,’ directed by Jake Gyllenhaal, according to a report.
McGregor, a two-time champion who rose to international fame during his time in the UFC, will join the cast of the 1989 action remake under director Doug Liman and producer Joel Silver, Deadline reported.
“Conor McGregor is thrilled to expand his career in Hollywood and join Jake Gyllenhaal in this reimagining of a beloved classic ‘Road House,'” McGregor spokeswoman Karen Kessler said.
The spokesperson said McGregor still wanted to fight but was “eager” to join the film.

“While fighting remains his priority, it’s the start of another successful adventure in the McGregor empire. He can’t wait to begin filming,” Kessler added.
McGregor’s exact role in the film has yet to be revealed, but he would portray an original character instead of playing himself.
McGregor is no stranger to stardom, as his larger-than-life personality and unassailable speech quickly made him a fan favorite in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The three-time retired fighter’s ability to promote events and stir up controversy made him a disruptor of the status quo and set him apart – in addition to his effective striking – from his competitors.
McGregor last fought in 2021 and has been headlining UFC events since 2015, when he won his first championship.
The “Road House” remake reimagines the 1989 film starring Patrick Swayze, Kelly Lynch, Sam Elliot, Ben Gazzara, Jeff Healey and Julie Michaels.
In the original, Swayze’s character took a job as a bouncer at a bar in Missouri. In the remake, Gyllenhaal will play a former UFC fighter who holds the same position at a bar in the Florida Keys.
“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on Road House’s beloved legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I will do with this iconic role,” director Liman said, according to the point of sale.

“The original Road House holds a special place in my heart and I’m so excited to bring this imagined new version to audiences around the world. Doug and I have each made some great, loud action movies and are ready to bring whatever we have for this one,” said Silver, the producer.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios, called the remake a “home run” and said it paid homage to the original while appealing to “a large, fun, broad audience.”
“Road House is a home run for us. Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it’s also a great, fun movie with a broad audience,” she said, reported Deadline. “We are thrilled to partner with Joel, Doug and this great cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, as they come together to reimagine the classic MGM film as an action-packed adventure for our global audience.”
