As the summer holidays begin, some summer camps and centers are worried about a severe lack of activity leaders. In question, the health crisis, as well as very low wages. Some cities are forced to cancel stays.

Without animators, no summer camps. This summer, they are a rare commodity. Some leisure centers have even had to reduce their reception capacity. In Carros, in the Alpes-Maritimes, many families were unable to register their children during the holidays, for lack of animators to supervise them. “We can’t find any arms (…) because two years ago, these people weren’t trained, since all the training organizations were stopped“, explains Yannick Bernard, mayor (DVD) of Carros (Alpes-Maritimes).

For all the young people who wanted to train in animation in the last two years, the internships are taking place right now. The profession of animator also seems to make people dream less and less. The training, although subsidized, costs between 1,000 and 1,100 euros, for an unattractive salary of around 1,500 euros gross per month. To attract candidates, some increase the remuneration. The town hall of Biache-Saint-Vaast (Pas-de-Calais) thus offers 17% additional salary for all its animators, and bonuses according to profile and activities.
