Colchester United have condemned the “despicable” and “shameful” chants sung by some of their supporters about Justin Edinburgh.

The U’s were facing Leyton Orient in Brisbane Road when chants could be heard coming from the opposite end.

Edinburgh led Orient to the National League title before earning promotion to the EFL just two months before sadly passing away from cardiac arrest.

A much-loved and respected member of the footballing family, Edinburgh died aged just 49 in June 2019.

In a statement on their social media, Colchester United wrote: “It is not the first time this season that a very small minority of those in the away section have acted in a disgraceful manner.

“This time doing despicable chants that no decent person would do and are in no way shared by Colchester United or the vast majority of Colchester United fans.

“We will cooperate with Leyton Orient if there are further inquiries.”
