Cody Rhodes Gets Emotional Revealing His First Conversation With Triple H Since WWE’s Stunning Return At WrestleMania 38

Cody Rhodes is back in WWE and he’s the main event star everyone thought he could be, but he had to leave to prove it.

The former AEW Executive Vice President returned to WWE after six years away and returned to a huge ovation as he fought and defeated Seth Rollins on the first night of WrestleMania 38.

Rhodes returned a bigger star than when he left

Rhodes left WWE with a frustrated character in the middle of the card in the form of Stardust and later helped form AEW, WWE’s biggest competitor today.

The 36-year-old has never been shy about taking shots in WWE, and he infamously took a hammer – Triple H’s patented weapon – to The Game’s proverbial throne when he first entered AEW.

talkSPORT managed to speak to Rhodes the morning after his sensational return to WWE and we asked how his first encounter with Triple H was.

Rhodes made headlines everywhere for smashing Triple H’s symbolic throne

“We talked,” Rhodes began, tears in his eyes. “And I think Triple H did it in such a Triple H way. … [voice breaks, gets emotional].

“My old assistant from AEW came over as a friend and he knows the worst kept secret in the world that Hunter is my favorite wrestler. It was really…Geez [wipes tears]It’s been a wild, tear-filled weekend, but it was just a good time.

“Also to see him healthy. I know retirement came as it did, but to be able to do it justice; not just to see my favorite wrestler that I wanted to model so much on, but Seth being his protege,” Rhodes explained.

Rhodes maintains that Triple H is his favorite wrestler

“And to do some of his fans a favor and maybe some moments for them and also for Triple H. We as wrestlers are all brands and fans even at the highest level that he has been . It was really touching.

“Mostly, you have to put it in perspective as many of you know, I talked a lot about slap. I destroyed his throne. I was very loud and loud and very angry. I was just angry. And this moment [with Triple H] there was no anger, because why would I be angry?

“WWE pays me this absurd amount of money and I become myself? Can I be me?! Especially come from where I left here, there is nothing to be angry about. He is it’s more of a chapter done – a beautiful chapter of AEW that I’m so proud of – and then starting this new chapter here.

“I kept saying over there, I kept saying ‘done’. I wasn’t talking about the game, I meant finish as far as what’s next? What I started here, I gotta finish it. But yeah, Triple H and I talked right before my match, I was really excited to see it,” Rhodes concluded.

Rhodes is considered a top star with WWE now and he stressed the importance of his continued history as central to that notion.
