With an increasingly fragile purchasing power, the French are numerous to deprive themselves of certain expenses, in particular those relating to clothing. Sales have been falling since last January.
A manager of a clothing store observes: customers have not always been there since last January. “You can spend whole days not seeing anyone entering the store“, laments Olivia Kharoubi. Since the pandemic, buyers have become rarer, with less spending involved. The trend is accelerating with the increase in the cost of living.
“Clothes and shoes seem more and more futile to me“, admits a client. “I find it too expensive“, says another. This is a situation that a shopkeeper had never experienced since the opening of the store. In his stock, the boxes are struggling to empty. Shoe stores are also affected. A shop has recorded almost 20% less turnover since January.
