Reports from the US claim that Benteke will become DC United’s highest-paid player.

Dave Kasper, President of Football Operations for DC United, added: “We have worked hard over the past few weeks to attract talent to strengthen our squad.

“Being able to bring in a world-class player from Christian [Benteke] caliber is a huge testament to what goes on behind the scenes at the club and our ability to attract top talent from around the world.

“We have been extremely active in the transfer window bringing in six players and since the appointment of Wayne Rooney as head coach we believe we have taken important steps in building a roster that can both make an effort to finish this season strong and build a base for us to move forward.
