Chick-fil-A employee battles Florida man who tries to hijack woman, deputies say

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Florida – A Florida man is behind bars after Okaloosa County deputies say he tried to take a woman’s keys and steal her car in the parking lot of a nearby Chick-fil-A of Fort Walton Beach on Wednesday, before being shot by one of the restaurant workers.

The victim was in the process of removing a baby from her car when William Branch, 43, approached her “wielding a stick and demanding her keys,” a Facebook post from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office read.

Branch took his belt keys and got into his car as the woman began to scream, drawing the employee’s attention, deputies said.

The employee – who deputies described as young, brave and courageous, but did not identify – ran to intervene, at one point being punched in the face by Branch, the post said.
