But the Blues come into this game fresh off a shock 4-1 home defeat to Brentford, so they could be vulnerable.

Chelsea have lost just one Champions League game this season, away to Stamford Bridge. In fact, the Blues have lost just one of their last ten home matches in UEFA’s premier competition.

But Real are the kings of Europe and have won the trophy 13 times, six more than any other team.

They got to this stage after an incredible comeback against Paris Saint-Germain, and in Karim Benzema they have the fifth-highest goalscorer in the history of the competition (79 goals).

Chelsea v Real Madrid: team news

Chelsea are hoping Reece James will be available to start after coming off the bench in the loss to Brentford.

The England international was deemed not fit enough to be in the XI but played 35 minutes plus stoppage time, and Tuchel could start him from the start on Wednesday.

Ben Chilwell remains a long-time absentee, while Callum Hudson-Odoi missed the game over the weekend with Achilles tendon pain, and Christian Pulisic rested after returning from international duty with jet lag .

The United States international is expected to be available for this game at Stamford Bridge.

But there will be no return to Chelsea for Eden Hazard as his injury nightmare in the Spanish capital continues.

The former Premier League striker had to undergo surgery to fix the fibula plate in one of his legs.

Luka Jovic has also missed traveling with the squad, while Isco is absent from Real’s squad.

The La Liga giants could also be without Ancelotti. The Italian tested positive for Covid last Wednesday and missed Real’s 2-1 win over Celta Vigo at the weekend, so it remains to be seen if he will return to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea v Real Madrid: what has been said?

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel: “It was a bit weird [atmosphere against Brentford].

“We need a better atmosphere against Real Madrid. In the first half it felt a bit like a friendly match.

“We have been punished. So it’s a summary of strange events but it’s on us and it’s our fault.

“I wouldn’t rely on it being fate or it happening. We will dig and try to find out why it was like that.

“There are reasons that we can put on ourselves and we will analyze and digest them. There is nothing else.

“It’s hard to take it because it’s very unusual for us what happened today – so we’ll refocus on Monday.”
