Chase Young injury update: Washington passer refuses cart, swept away with non-contact injury

| News Today | Today Headlines

The Washington football team were already down from Montez Sweat in Week 10 due to a broken jaw. On Sunday, they suffered another key injury at the defensive end.

Chase Young was injured after a seemingly routine play near Washington’s end zone. He was trying to put pressure on Tom Brady while left tackle Donovan Smith blocked him.

Young was just catching up with Smith when he fell to the ground. His knee bent in an awkward, non-contact manner, and Young twisted in pain after the play.

It appeared that Young was going to have a hard time getting off the field on the game. So Washington called the cart to take him to the locker room.

However, Young refused to use the cart. Instead, he chose to limp cautiously in the locker room with the help of Washington staff members.

It’s unclear why Young chose not to take the cart. He was eliminated very quickly for the remainder of the game due to a knee injury and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports he may have suffered an ACL tear at the end of the season.

It will be a big blow to Washington’s defense in the long run. Young has only had 1.5 sacks this season, but he’s put a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks during the season.

In the short term, Young and Sweat are eliminated against the Buccaneers, so Washington will need to rely heavily on their defensive depth to generate a pass rush against Tom Brady. Casey Toohill and James Smith-Williams will likely play a large chunk of the snaps while Bunmi Rotimi and Shaka Toney join them in performing them.
