Fans were informed 14 minutes before the start of the game

Reds fans were held back by police outside the stadium as they sought to avoid a stampede of supporters descending to the ground, while the Real Madrid faithful appeared to have no problems.

The match was initially postponed by 15 minutes, before being postponed again, as indicated in a UEFA press release: “For security reasons, the kick-off of the UEFA Champions League final has was delayed 15 minutes. It will now start at 9:15 p.m. CET.

French police have tweeted a message asking fans not to force entry to the Stade de France as images of supporters climbing the gates circulated online.

Spanish football expert Dermot Corrigan spoke on talkSPORT about the delays off the pitch. He said, “It’s quite hairy out there.

“A lot of Liverpool fans and a lot of people coming out of the tube, just crammed into an area in an underpass.

“Everyone rushed in and security was blocking people, so we had to move on.

Liverpool’s end looked uncharacteristically empty at kick-off

“The atmosphere was quite calm, no one was kicking off, but it was hairy and it took a while to pass.

“Just looking at the colleagues who are still outside, it continues. You can see that Madrid’s end is quite full, while Liverpool’s end is still quite sparse.

“So it seems there is an organizational problem.”

Preparations didn’t go perfectly for Jurgen Klopp’s side as the team bus got stuck in traffic on the way to the stadium.

Teams generally seek to arrive at the stadium around 100 minutes before kick-off in order to settle into their surroundings, inspect the pitch, warm up and change and prepare for the clash.

Real Madrid managed to do this by arriving at the Stade de France around 6.20pm UK time, one hour and 40 minutes before kick-off.

However according to ESPNthe Liverpool team arrived just an hour and 20 minutes before kick-off, 15-20 minutes after their opponents.
