ANTIBES, France — The Cannes Film Festival’s attention turns Thursday to amfAR’s glitzy gala to raise funds for AIDS research.
Queen Latifah is throwing the lavish party that will raise millions through her auction of unique items and experiences. The co-chairs for the evening are Angela Bassett, Robert De Niro and Scarlett Johansson. Halsey, Gladys Knight, Adam Lambert and Bebe Rexha are scheduled to perform at the 29th edition.
The nearly two weeks of Cannes red carpets offer many exceptional fashion moments. This year’s edition did not disappoint, with Helen Mirren sporting blue hair on opening night, Johansson and other ‘Asteroid City’ stars Wes Anderson looking glamorous and Adriana Lima, Karlie Kloss and other celebs decked out for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate Premiere.
Stars from the nearby Cannes Film Festival often attend the gala. De Niro was the star guest last year and a lunch with the Oscar winner was among the fundraising items.
Since last year, the amfAR Cannes gala has raised $245 million for the group’s vital AIDS research programs.
