When asked what they said to each other, Canelo spoke directly to Golovkin during his post-fight interview.

“Thank you very much, my friend,” he said.

“Thank you Golovkin, thank you, thank you for everything.

“We give the fans three good fights and thank you for everything.”

Canelo added: “He’s a very good fighter, I know.

“He’s strong, he’s a great fighter. And that’s why we’re here, isn’t it?

“I’m happy to share the ring with him.”

Golovkin gave his opinion at the post-fight press conference.

“I’ve always said that I don’t feel any animosity in our rivalry,” he insisted.

“He was the one who said it was personal.

“But after the fight, when we looked each other in the eye, we no longer had any pretensions towards each other.

“We congratulated each other, said ‘Great fight’ and moved on.

“Because we realize that at this level this sport is so dangerous and we were very happy with how this fight went and how our rivalry ended.”
