After a wild opening win over Czechia, Team Canada will look to keep the momentum going against Austria at the 2022 World Junior Championships while making some roster adjustments.

Xavier Bourgault was injured in Sunday’s win and will not play for the Canadiens on Tuesday. In turn, Canada will run with 12 forwards and eight defenders, and Mavrik Bourque will be in the top three with Cole Perfetti and Shane Wright to start. Meanwhile, Connor Bedard, who got some time in the top three on Boxing Day, will start in the fourth row with Elliott Desnoyers and Will Cuylle.

The Austrian team will look to put the last difficult days in the mirror and get back on track. To start their race at the World Juniors, the Austrians had to quarantine themselves due to a positive COVID-19 test, and they were unsure whether they would play against Finland on Monday. However, the game ultimately went according to plan and they lost 7-1 to Finland.

“We were heavy legs after having to stay at the hotel all day yesterday,” Martin Urbanek, Austria’s lone scorer, told after the loss. “Things like that can happen. We have done our best to prepare and have trained well.”

Brett Brochu will start in net for Canada following the departure of Dylan Garand on Sunday, while Leon Sommer gets the green light for the Austrians.
