California man arrested for shooting 15-year-old girl near high school, police say

A California man has been arrested after a 15-year-old girl was caught in the crossfire and hit by a stray bullet near a high school last week, authorities said.
Leon Arreguin, 36, was found at the 900 block of Nebraska Street, where he was arrested Friday, the Vallejo Police Department said.
Investigators found evidence at the home related to the shooting that unfolded when the occupants of two separate vehicles fired at each other around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday near Vallejo High School, police said.
A bullet hit a girl walking nearby, but police said they did not believe she was the intended target. She reportedly sustained a serious, non-life-threatening injury. No update on his condition was immediately available.

During an interview with officers after his arrest, Arreguin “confessed to the crime”, the department said.

The school had already dismissed students for the day the shooting happened, FOX2 reported KTVU, citing officials.

Arreguin was charged with assault with a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and inflicting bodily harm on a child.
