Burnley vs Tottenham postponed LIVE! Premier League game called off after heavy snowfall at Turf Moor

| News Today | World News

Today’s Premier League match between Burnley and Tottenham has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions at Turf Moor.

Snow fell heavily overnight and Sunday morning in Lancashire as the heated basement was unable to cope with the conditions thereafter.

Burnley’s ground staff tried unsuccessfully to clear the field and get the game going, but unfortunately the elements did not slow down.

The decision to call off the match was taken around 45 minutes before the scheduled kick-off time of 2:00 p.m. GMT, with the Tottenham squad having already arrived, following a pitch inspection by the referee. Peter Bankes and in collaboration with managers Sean Dyche and Antonio Conte.

The game will now have to be rescheduled, with the Premier League expected to provide more information on possible new dates in due course.

Dyche: the postponement was a joint decision

Burnley said the postponement was due to “concerns about the surface of the pitch and surrounding areas”.

It appears the heavy snowfall overnight and so far today has left the basement heating system at Turf Moor simply unable to cope.

“I don’t see how this could go forward with the current state of the pitch,” Burnley manager Sean Dyche said.

“He fell so fast and so heavy. It’s still pretty strong now. [The pitch] can’t get rid of snow that fast.

He added: “As you can see the pitch recovers every time he clears it. The referee also explained the angle of safety, so it was important to make a decision early.

“These are the lines that are also clear – we had to stop and clear them. It is a joint decision with all those concerned.

“We were ready for the game and I made it clear if we wanted to, as was their manager.”

I haven’t heard any suggestion yet that this game might be in jeopardy this afternoon, but the snow still seems to be falling heavily on Turf Moor and there are still plenty of gardeners working hard to clear the pitch.

We will bring you further developments as they occur.

Dyche: Burnley is on a nice little run

Dyche chatted with match referee Peter Bankes in shirt and tie without a jacket – a braver man than me!

Here is more information on the longtime Burnley boss, whose side have only beaten Brentford in the Premier League so far this season, while also drawing six other matches.

“We will have to be well aware of their strengths,” he said.

“But also, we are on a nice little race. Our performances – I’ve said most of the season actually, but certainly recently – we look like a threat, we can score goals for now.

“We are still focusing on ourselves and obviously we are aware of a change in manager, a change in culture at Tottenham, so it may take time.”

“A lot of times it was about taking risks, not managing the game, but more about created opportunities that we didn’t take,” said Dyche.

“We’re looking more of a threat over the last couple of weeks, probably four or five games for sure.

“At the start of the season we were playing pretty well, I think, but the balance has to be right on both sides and we’ve tightened that up a bit.”

Dyche hopes to capitalize on Tottenham uncertainty

Meanwhile, his Burnley counterpart, Sean Dyche, is hoping to take advantage of any initial startup issues for Conte in the Spurs hotseat.

“It will be helpful if it takes time because we play them very quickly,” he said.

“There are no two ways for a manager to know his stuff and to be honest the players know their stuff.

“It’s just sometimes that you need the connection between what you’re trying to accomplish tactically, a culture change, a manager change and getting the most out of the players.

“The manager has to make the most of it, it’s his job, and his record suggests that he will do it over time.

“I really hope he doesn’t do it this weekend, that would help, but they’re not lacking in talent for sure.”

Conte provides scathing Spurs assessment

Conte was brutally honest after the embarrassment in Slovenia, admitting that he was starting to understand the situation at Tottenham after three weeks and that Spurs’ level is “not that high”.

While he said he was ‘happy to stay’ he insisted that there was a lot of work to be done to improve the squad and try to close the gap in the Premier League.

“I do my evaluations and then I will speak with the club but I am ready to continue to work in this way,” said Conte.

“But it’s important that we know that the situation is not simple, simple, no. It’s not enough to do this [clicks fingers] and change the game.

“We need time, we need passion, we need work and that’s what I’m here for. This does not mean that we have to change a lot. I am ready to do what the club wants to do. But now the situation is very clear.

He added: “Of course we need players with the right mentality and with quality, players who deserve to play for Tottenham and aspire to be competitive, to fight for this shirt, to win something. , we need it.

“Honestly, I have been working with the team for three or four weeks and I want to tell you that I have found a great commitment, a great capacity and there is the will, the desire to improve myself but now more time has passed and I am doing my evaluations directly, not through TV or by other people, but directly, and of course we have to improve a lot to close the gap with the top teams.

“I want to be honest. I repeat, I am not afraid to face this situation, but it is important that everyone understands.
